"A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Bill grew up in Beargrass Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). In high school Bill was involved in sports where he lettered in football, baseball and cross-country. He did his undergraduate work at Eastern Kentucky University where he studied Political Science and Psychology and was involved in student politics. He was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Among other leadership positions, Bill served as Chief Justice of the Student Court and the President of the Student Body at Eastern.
He earned his bachelor degree from Eastern Kentucky University, his M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary and holds a Doctor of Ministry degree in pastoral counseling from Kingsway Theological Seminary.
Bill McConnell has served Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Churches in Kentucky, Iowa, Illinois, Tennessee and Ohio. He served almost 20 years as Senior Pastor of the First Christian Church in Harrison, Ohio, beginning in December of 1991. He was the Lead Minister of Legacy Christian Church January 2008 until March of 2011. During his tenure the church's membership tripled and worship attendance grew by over 500%. Over 80% of the church membership was involved in small groups and ministry. Bill is presently serving as Transformational Senior Minister at Lindenwood Christian Church in Memphis, Tennessee.
Bill and his wife Nancy have seven adult children and 11 grandchildren. Dr. McConnell has been serving in the ministry since 1970 and was ordained in his home church in 1972. He has served congregations in Kentucky, Iowa, Illinois, Tennessee and Ohio.
Bill is a certified Fire Fighter and Emergency Medical Tech and worked in departments in several states. He has also served as a Fire and Police Chaplain in three states. Bill has worked in both adult and juvenile correctional facilities. He spends most of his spare time as a church Transformation Consultant and Leadership Coach and leading church retreats.
Bill has published articles in several professional journals has published four books. His latest book, from Westbow Press, is Developing a Significant Church, was published in June of 2014. He has written another book on church transformation, Renew Your Congregation, Healing the Sick and Raising the Dead, that was published in January 2008. He has columns occasionally published in the Commercial Appeal, Memphis' major newspaper."
