An oral history interview with President Wilborn is available in full here, during which Wilborn discusses his tenure as Student Body President and Student Regent at length. Wilborn is noted as being the first student to ever serve on EKU's Board of Regents, aiding it in the distinction of being the second college in the nation to have both a student and faculty representative among its membership.
Following graduation, Steve Wilborn would join the army and served until 1971. After his discharge, he attended law school at the University of Kentucky and opened a private practice in Shelbyville. In 1978, he was elected to serve as a state representative for House District 58. He was re-elected to a second term, and left office afterwards to pursue a career in public policy. However, during his time in the state legislature he would serve alongside his occassional adversary from his time at Eastern, former president and then state senator Robert R. Martin. Wilborn would admit later that most of the conflict between the two was due a lack of political acumen on his own part,
